Can you help? I am trying to find out where my mother’s side of the family originated (RITHALER/ RITTHALER/ ROTHEISLER) before Strembeni, Bessarabia.

I am also wondering about siblings of my grandparents and great-grandparents (if there were any).

I don’t know much more than:

My grandfather, John RITHALER was born Jan.29, 1886 in Strembeni, Kischenew, Bessarabia, son of George RITTHALER and Anna Maria MANN.

He married Katherine ROTHEISLER who was born May 22, 1888 in Algina, Russia, daughter of Peter ROTHEISLER and Anna STICH.

My family came from Germany to the Galician province of Austria in 1784. In 1862 my great grandfather moved on to the Black Sea so my first thought was to see if either of your Mann or Ritthaler families did the same thing. My primary resource for Galician Germans is http://www.galiziengermandescendants.org/ and their familybooks at http://www.galiziengermandescendants.or ... ybooks.htm.

I found RITTHALERs in 23 villages in Galicia but none with the name George. Similarly, I found MANNs in 81 Galician villages and I even found one Anna Maria MANN but she was born in 1797. The GGD search engine for Galician Germans in their FamilyBooks can be found at http://www.galiziengermandescendants.or ... yBooks.htm. Your family doesn't appear to connect to the Galician Germans but it's worth keeping in mind.
