Hello all,

I have recently completed tests of both a Y-37 DNA test of a Hoffert/Hoffart male cousin, who's paternal line traces back to most the Mannheim, Odessa, Ukraine are, and prior to the (early 1800's) to Alsace France/Germany. And would love to hear from any others sharing this paternal line, about possible Y-DNA refinement. During their time in Ukraine, the family resided within the Roman Catholic communities.

I myself (and my mother) also took mtDNA tests, the line of which is also Black Sea German, and presumably also from the Roman Catholic communities there. It brick-walls at my Great-Grandmother Dorthea/Dorothy Bauge (surname phonetically close to this, but by no means definitive). Maternal haplogroup as determined by FTDNA is "X2b-T226C". I would be interested in hearing from anyone who could assist in that search as well.

I have an idea Brian. I just did a search in our BlackSeaGR database with "Last Name soundex of Bauge AND First Name contains doro" and I got 109 hits. As is always the case with Soundex there is quite a bit of longshots but some of the names looked interesting (Bosche Dorothea for example). In any case worth checking to see if any of the information in these hits connects with your Dorothea. Good Luck!
