I am researching Elizabeth Schlecht who was born in Freudental, South Russia. She is my great grandmother and married Friedrich Ohlhauser, also from Freudental. They immigrated to the U.S. in Apr of 1897 with two of their children, Friedrich and Karoline and settled in Emmons County, North Dakota. My personal website http://www.ohlhauser.net contains a picture of Friedrich and Elizabeth. I would love to connect to other researchers connected to the Schlecht surname.

Regards,
Gayla Ohlhauser Aspenleiter

Is your Elisabeth related to any of these?
Schlecht, Anna Maria 25 December 1803 - Bonlanden, Esslingen, Baden-Württemberg, Germany 28 December 1873 - Hoffnungstal, Odessa, South Russia
Schlecht, Louisa - -
Schlecht, Susanna 18 Oct 1831 - Freudental, Odessa, South Russia

I also have several with the spelling: Schlaht. Do you think they could be related?

Justin

Justin, my Elisabeth is the daughter of Johann Peter and Dorothea (Martin) Schlecht. Johann Peter's father is Georg Schlecht from Freudental. Susanna Schlecht born in 1831 in Freudental is a sister to Johann Peter. I am not sure who Georg's father is but the family apparently came through Hungary on the way to South Russia. Georg's mother was Eva Maria Maier who married Matthias Schuler after Georg's father died.

Do you have any additional information on this family that you can share?

Gayla

Justin; Just FYI, An email came across my desk that mentions that the Gluckstal Newsletter, Spring 2011 has an autobiography of Johann Schlaht & Bio of David Schlaht. Any connection? For some reason my name is mentioned in the article but I don't know why yet.
