I'm trying to find information on my Freistadt and Steblau ancestors.

Johan Freistadt and his wife Veronica Steblau left Mariupol for Canada in 1906 with their children Anna, Joseph, Mary, Charles, Gottlieb, Elizabeth, Lawrence and Nikolas. They arrived in Boston on May 11 1906, having departed from Liverpool on the Invernia. They were settled in Rosthern Saskatchewan by the birth of son Leopold in October of 1906.

The family was listed as Roman Catholic in the 1921 Census of Saskatchewan.

As far as I can find, Johan appears to be the son of Mathias Freistadt but I have no other information on the Freistadts and absolutely no info on the Steblau's

Would love to try to find them in Russia. Any help would be appreciated as I'm new to researching in Russia
Thank you
Tara

Hello Tara,

Sorry, Mariupol on the Sea of Azov is quite far from our focus area of the German settlers on the shores of the Black Sea but your query will be found on the internet once Google indexes your addition to our Forum so perhaps someone will find your query and reply. Best of Luck!

P.S. Have you tried searching your surnames in our BlackSeaGR Database?
